Dear Foster Parent,
Fostering is never easy and I have no words that can describe the gratitude that wells within my heart. Caring for those homeless little ones requires so much more than a house over your head. I’ve been there and yet I can’t say that ‘Done That’ can really bring out the true feeling that wells within my heart.
When you choose to be a foster parent, you choose the path less taken. You choose battles with litter boxes and feeding times. In fact, if your little ball of fur is really tiny, you will be happy when they use the litter box at all! Yes! As they grow up things change… The kittens become cleaner and they can vault over the side of the litter box so much more easily… You will find that you can hardly believe your eyes when a few weeks old kitten uses their ‘toilet’ and comes back and cleans itself! It’s often left me wishing that human babies could do the same!
If you are a foster parent then you know the challenges I talk about and yet there are so many moments in which your heart will overflow with love. Feeding times become a joy when they scamper all the way to you. The house never feels empty as tiny feet patter along side you everywhere you go… That includes the toilet! So if you are going to be a foster parent be prepared!
Being a foster parent means that a string can become a source of entertainment and a piece of paper a toy! It means laughing at things that you never really thought cats could do. Yes! Kittens can be a joy!
There are those that find that they want to do far more than just foster a kitten. After all kittens become cats and not all cats have homes. I salute those foster parents for they work selflessly to save lives. They rescue those with broken bones and infected cuts… They carry the sick and the maimed… Yes! Those foster parents are true heroes.
I’ve found foster parents in all sizes and shapes… Yet… They are all the same… They are united in their belief that every voiceless feline friend deserves a better life… Deserves a home!
Being a foster parent isn’t easy. It never was and it will never be. The hardest part is always saying goodbye. For when you foster you know that one day, the kitten/cat will go to their forever home. You must know that your role was transitional. YOUR ROLE WAS IMPORTANT!
For being a foster parent means sharing your home, your life, your bed with a number of feline friends.
