I’ve always loved hammocks. I love the concept. The idea of reclining and swinging comfortably with a good book to keep me company.
A hammock is a sling that can be made up of different kinds of fabric. Some hammocks use rope or netting too. This sling is then suspended between two firm points or supports. The result is used for sleeping or resting. Some people even use it for swinging.
I was browsing through Wikipedia and searching fro the history of hammocks when I found that their history can be traced back to the Central and South America. The native inhabitants of this area used these hammocks for sleeping.
Luckily for us the Indian market has a wide variety of hammocks that are really eye catching. The 7Trees Cotton Fabric Single Person Hammock is more of the traditional kind of hammock. The bright colors gives this hammock a lot of visual appeal. It is meant for those people who have gardens and can rest with a book under the shade of a tree,
A hammock does not necessarily need to accommodate just one person. The hammock on your left is a perfect example of one that accommodates two people. The bright colors of the hammock are eye catching at it certainly would make a good addition to any garden!
The traditional hammocks however aren’t really practical when it comes to an apartment setup. That however does not mean that you need to give up the luxury that a hammock offers.
Most people choose to use the outdoor swing hammocks for their balconies. It is a perfect way to get an outdoorsy feeling while still living within an apartment complex. The preferred styles vary. The Hangit Hammock provides a classy Indian feel to the atmosphere.
Unfortunately the colors used are dull. While there are many who prefer the inconspicuous look, there are others who prefer a little color. Luckily there are options that are available!
The Kkriya hammock is a perfect of example. The blue used is neither too bright nor too dull. It’s something that would catch my eye and yet blend into the background. I find that this just adds life to the atmosphere. Then again preferences vary!
There is another Hangit hammock that begs to be taken notice of. It has a rather simplistic design.
As you can see the sides of the hammock are supported by a rod. This turns the hammock into sort of a swing. The colors of this hammock are eye catching and pretty.
THE ALTERNATIVES TO TRADITIONAL HAMMOCKS
A number of people are opting for alternatives to the traditional hammocks. These alternatives are mostly swings and are more durable. Let’s take a look at few that I stumbled across.
The Aashi Enterprise Swing reminds me of my childhood. My grandmother had a similar swing in her house and I spent many a hour rocking on it while she told me her stories.
I’m sure that a lot of people will be able to relate to this swing in the same way that I do!
There are more intricate designs that are available. The Shri Sai Outdoor Furniture Ratan has become a popular choice. I have seen it being used in a number of houses. In fact, if I take a walk round my complex, I’m sure I will be able to spot quite a few in the balconies.
I have to confess that this particular swing is my personal favorite. The idea of curling up in it, makes me feel warm all over. Another positive thing about this swing is that it comes with its own stand. This means that you don’t have to drill any holes in your ceiling to set it up!
The Kaushalendra Garden Zula is another swing that caught my attention. I haven’t stumbled across this piece yet but you have to admit that it does look pretty.
Like the previous swing, it comes with its own stand. This means that it is easy to setup and there is no marks left in your house. An added benefit of getting this swing is that more that one person can sit on it at once. In my opinion, this swing is meant more for the outdoors. It will work well if you have a large balcony or a garden.
Getting a hammock isn’t a life changing decision. It however is one that can bring you a lot of comfort and relaxation. At least that is the way I look at it. For me hammocks are a part of memories and some memories can never be forgotten!
