Awhile back I found myself faced with a big problem. My laundry had piled up and I had no way of getting it done. Before you ask me why let me explain. My washing machine works just fine but it works well with normal clothes. Desperate to ensure that my thick blankets were washed, I stuffed one inside the washing machine. (When I say stuffed I mean stuffed). Sadly, even after putting the blanket through the whole cycle, it hadn’t moved an inch. I was left with a soap coated blanket which was soaking wet. Not pleasant at all! Luckily for me someone suggested using the Sky Laundry Lounge.
Let me tell you the truth. I hesitated. The blanket dried up and I stored in one of my usual hunts. The temperatures in Bangalore were soaring either way. There was no need to pull out any blanket. I soon forgot about the blankets and time passed.
With the end of Summer, it was time to do our ritual cleaning. Stuff would soon stop to dry as easily as it does in hot weather. The curtains came down and blankets came back out. The musty smell that accompanied them was not too pleasant. I don’t know if any of you have cats but my blanket was decorated with cat fur. That’s when I decided that enough was enough. I needed to get my blankets and curtains clean at all costs.
I called up my friend and inquired about the laundry service that he had been talking about and he sent me the details over Facebook. Browsing through the services that the Sky Laundry Lounge offered, I decided to send my blankets for a quick sprucing up. It reminded me of the laundry services that are available throughout Europe. Simplistic and yet helpful.
I did not have the time to make the trip to the lounge and I did not want to deal with the peak day traffic either. That’s why I chose to use their pick up and drop services. What makes the place interesting is the fact that they do not charge per item. They charge per kg. So if you have a lot of small items to be washed, this works out to be very cheap.
The clothes were dropped off promptly the next day. The fragrance of the soap used just blew my mind away. Even though the days had still not turned cold, my husband put the blankets out on the beds. He was determined to use them no matter what.
That however was not what surprised me. The blankets were dropped off by the man who owned Sky Laundry lounge. The simplicity of the person was astounding. When asked why he did it, he replied that he stayed in the complex and it would save his employees an extra trip. While many may not see it as much, I found it really inspiring. Not many people are so grounded and involved in what they do.
He stopped and spoke to us for awhile. The Sky Laundry lounge has three ways it operates. You can come and use the machines yourself. They call this the DIY way. The second way is by dropping the clothes off at the Sky Laundry Lounge. Someone will do the needful for you and you can collect your clothes later. This is the ‘Drop Off’ way. The last way is the ‘Pick up and delivery’. Here you can get clothes collected from your home. The Sky Laundry Lounge will do the rest for you. They even drop it off once everything is finished.
When you do it yourself you will find that you have a lot of time to kill. Instead of getting bored, you can pick up a book from the array of books available and read. You can even connect to the WiFi and browse the net. For a person like me it sounded to good to be true.
The Sky Laundry Lounge is a novel idea. The idea may not be new but the placement of the Sky Laundry Lounge is great. It covers a wide variety of busy office areas. I’m sure the singles in the area will appreciate this new facility. The married women like me have also found a place to wash their thick blankets and curtains in peace!
