I’m often asked about what dry cat food I feed my cat Jynx. I could give you a straight answer but I think I would rather give you the long one. The reason why is simple. Like me, I know the rest of you are also searching for the right food for your cat. The number of options that are available on the market doesn’t make the choice easy either!
For today, let’s take a look at what are the factors that should help you in making your decision. Then we can take up one of the popular brands and discuss it.
POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A DRY CAT FOOD
There are a few things that you need to consider when it comes to feeding your cat.
1.Cats are carnivores. Yes! While we may not all eat meat, cats are predominantly carnivores. An article in WebMD points out that cats do not eat the same kind of food that dogs or humans do. Dog food is rich in carbohydrates. In cats, carbohydrates leads to obesity. Now while obesity may not seem life threatening, diabetes that is associated with obesity is. So ensure that the main ingredient in your dry cat food is meat based and not grain based.
2. Cats are fussy eaters. Cats have been known to be picky about the food that they eat. You may buy the best gourmet dry cat food in town just to find that your cat turns up it’s nose at it. While you may think that the cat will eat when it gets hungry, there are more serious complications that can arise. If your cat does not like the food, it is most likely going to stay hungry… Period! No amount of convincing will get your cat to eat.
3. Cost: Most of us know that dry cat food isn’t always cheap. It comes in a variety of price ranges. The Indian scenario has food brands that range from Meow to Whiskas. Then there is Royal Canine. It is another popular brand of cat food that many cat parents use.
4. Availability: Availability is an important factor to consider. This is particularly because you can’t keep changing the brand of cat food all the time. The cat’s stomach is very sensitive to change. Sudden changes in diet can cause gastritis and diarrhea. For me this was particularly important and I was on the search for a brand that is available globally.
LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT WHISKAS DRY CAT FOOD
Concentrating on the taste does have its perks. It means that a fussy cat has a number of options available where taste is concerned. Some cats which do not like chicken have fish and vice versa. It is versatile and makes choosing a particular product easier.
Whiskas also comes with smaller packets so testing out the product is easier and cheaper. That means minimal wastage if your cat doesn’t like it. Does that happen? Well I’ve noticed that cats love the sound of the crinkling of the Whiskas packet. They come scurrying from everywhere.
Over the past year that I have boarded and fostered cats, I have found that a large number of cat parents prefer Whiskas dry cat food. Affordability is high on their list of reasons. You will also realize that many of the larger super markets also store Whiskas. So it is easily available too!
That however isn’t all that Whiskas has to offer. Like I said before, the company also has a special dry cat food product that is designed for kittens. It is called Whiskas junior. This dry cat food however comes in only one flavor and that is Ocean Fish.
Another interesting dry cat food product that Whiskas has come out with is the one that is designed to reduce hairballs. It is called the Whiskas Chicken And Tuna Hariball control. This is specifically designed for cats with long fur and a high predisposition to hairballs.
WHAT MAKES WHISKAS SO GOOD
There are a number of reasons why Whiskas ranks high on many people’s list. When compared to Meo, Whiskas is said to provide more nutritional support. It may not be as cheap as Meo but it is still affordable. Whiskas has also become the dry cat food of choice in households that have more than one cat.
Whiskas dry cat food cannot provide all the nourishment that your cat needs. It is a suitable supplement if you are using it as a filler between meals. If you belong to a pure vegetarian household and you can’t provide your cat with some form of meat, I would suggest that you use Royal Canin. The nutrient values in that are much higher than that of Whiskas. Then again… That is my opinion.
