A few weeks back, I wrote an article about the best closed litter box. It generated a lot of questions and a number of people wrote back to me asking for more information regarding the same. Rather than mulling on the plain old covered litter box that everyone uses, I decided to think out of the box (pun unintended!).
While most of my colleagues are unfortunately exposed to the old humdrum covered litter box in India, I found that my feline friends abroad have an array of designs! Not fair! So then why am I writing about the covered litter box? I hope that people who have the chance to indulge can get one. While those who can’t… Please take these as some cool DIY project ideas!
THE BOODA CLEAN STEP LITTER BOX
I love to start with the simple ones. Some thing that is both simple as well as unique is the Booda Clean Step Litter Box. Take a look at the picture on the right and see the design for yourself!
Litter that falls out of the litter box causes an unsightly sight. It’s somethin that we choose to avoid at all costs. In fact, after smell it is one of the main reasons why people choose to use a covered litter box.
The problem with conventional litter boxes is that a good amount of litter still manages to fall on the floor. The Booda Clean Step Litter Box helps combat that problem! A flight of steps makes sure that none of the litter actually falls out of the covered litter box. This makes it a great choice for people who are very conscious of how neat their houses need to be!
That isn’t the only thing that your cat will find attractive. If you’ve read my previous post ‘The Closed Litter Box Conundrum’, you will know that the height and width of the covered litter box is important. This is especially so for large cats as they require enough space to move about. The Booda Clean Step Litter Box solves this problem by providing 50 percent more space than other conventional covered litter boxes!
While the previous covered litter box had a unique way of getting rid of the litter from a cats paws, the Cat Washroom-Nightstand has a more novel approach. Disguised as a nightstand, the Cat Washroom-Nightstand keeps the cat litter box out of sight. It forms the perfect covered litter box for those who hate seeing the litter box around. It even works better than the traditional covered litter boxes.
While most people use this as a place to keep their litter box/tray, some people use it as a place to keep the cats bedding. It makes a perfect abode for the cat to sleep in too!
This is particularly interesting DIY project that my Indian counterparts can indulge in. All that one needs is a appropriately sized cabinet. You can make an opening in the door for the cat or get a carpenter to do it for you!
GOOD PET STUFF: HIDDEN CAT LITTER BOX
Another very inconspicuous covered litter box is provided by a company known as ‘Good Pet Stuff‘. Their covered litter box resembles a clay pot! No! I am not kidding! Look at the picture to your right and you will see just what I mean!
The over sized clay pot houses the cat’s litter inside it. It’s perfect especially if you have a terrace or balcony which is at your cat’s disposal!
The best part about this covered litter box is the fact that it is designed for large breed cats. The height of the litter box is approximately 42 inches. That should give you an idea of how roomy the covered litter box is!
THE CAT WASHROOM BENCH
Another potential idea for a good DIY project comes from the Cat Washroom Bench. I know that a lot of my colleagues tend to put the litter box in the bathroom. Open litter boxes mean a lot of litter spills everywhere. A covered litter box reduces the mess.
Some people find that the traditional litter box just doesn’t got with the decor of their bathroom. So then what? The Cat Washroom Bench is for all purposes a bench. The inner portion of the bench is hollow and allows you to place the litter box within it. A removable partition ensures that you can either store your supplies (like the litter scoop) or just use it as a really large covered litter box!
While all the products that I have covered are from the Amazon.com site, I use them as a source of inspiration. If you are lucky enough to have access to these products then consider yourself lucky! If you are like me and you find that you have the short end of the stick… Well… Don’t despair! Things are not as bad as they seem. A little bit of improvisation and a little bit of patience is all that you need!
Do get back to me and let me know if you buy/have bought any of the products. I would also like to know if you have incorporated these ideas as DIY projects in your home!
