My search for a good air fryer began only recently. That however is not where my story began. The real start to my story was somewhere over a year ago. That’s when I decided to go healthy. The reasons for this drastic choice were many. To be honest, health wasn’t the only primary reason.
My other primary reason was weight gain! I found the idea of progressively putting on weight repelling. A part of me wanted to cling on to the fitter and younger self that I was used to. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done!
I suffered from a gastric condition. While the doctors found it hard to put their finger on the cause of the condition, they all seemed to agree that the amount of oil that I consumed seemed to affecting my digestive process. Long story short… They asked me to cut out oil from my diet!
I had no choice but to reduce the amount of oil that I used in cooking. An initial diet of fruits and salads satisfied me for a while. As time passed I craved for more normal food. That’s when I switched to grilling my food.
It took me a while but I soon lost 12 kgs. I felt good about myself and my stomach was significantly better. The craving to eat fried food still persisted. That is what took me on this quest. A quest to find the best air fryer! Let’s take a look at all the information I have accumulated.
PHILIPS VICA COLLECTION HD9220 AIR FRYER
At the top of my list is the Philips HD9220 which is part of the Philips Vica collection. The criteria I used to narrow down my options was simple. I looked for the air fryer with the largest number of reviews and with the best rating. What was my logic? It meant that a larger number of people were happy with the product that they bought!
The Philips HD9220 air fryer seemed like a non brainer. A 4.4 star review after almost 800 reviews is definitely something that catches your attention!
How does the Philips HD9220 air fryer work?
The air fryer uses a unique design that combines high speed air circulation and a top grill. Philips calls this the ‘Rapid air technology’.
This design circulates hot air at high speeds. What makes it more interesting is the fact that the hot air targets the ingredients from all sides. This is how it makes the act of frying much more healthier and easier.
Take at the YouTube video by Harvey Norman to get a better understanding of how the Rapid Air technology works.
The reviews aren’t the only thing that is good about the HD9220. Everything about the device is practical and user friendly. Some of the other features that caught my attention were:
- The HD9220 is dishwasher friendly: So I don’t have to worry too much about cleaning it!
- It has an inbuilt timer: That way I don’t run the risk of burning my food!
- Adjustable temperature control: I find this function very useful when you cook more than one kind of meal.
- Cord storage: Makes the kitchen look neat and organized!
- No or reduced oil usage: This is the ultimate and most important reason!
THE KENSTAR ASTER AIR FRYER
The Kenstar Aster air fryer ranked second on my list. With 130 customer reviews and a 4.3 star rating, it was something that I needed to consider.
How does the Kenstar Aster air fryer work?
Like the Philips HD9220 air fryer, the Kenstar Aster uses hot air to fry the ingredients that are placed in its basket. The hot air technology reduces the need for the use of oil to almost nothing. In fact, you can actually fry stuff without the use of oil!
Take a look at one of Kenstar’s videos below to get a visual idea of how this works!
A few key features make this model stand out! Let’s take a look at them!
• The handle: Makes carrying the food around so much easier.
• The thermostat and the temperature dials: Allows us to set a variable temperature. It is mighty useful when you like your food to be browned to perfection!
• 3 liter frying basket: Ensures that there is plenty of room for the entire dish that you are preparing.
• The recipe book: Is a perfect way to get started!
The reviews on Amazon showed me that these two devices ranked the highest when compared to the other competitors. The number of people buying these air fryers is on the rise everyday. Makes me wonder… Should I switch from my regular OTG to an air fryer? What do you think? Have you bought/tried any one of these products? Do let me know!
